Shipping Methods & Rules (General Info)

This is the heart of eShipRate. Here is where you determine your shipping rules and methods.

First let’s define what a “Shipping Method” is in eShipRate. When your customers checkout, they will be presented with shipping options such as Ground Shipping, 2-Day Shipping, and Next Day Shipping.
These are “Shipping Methods”. These are the shipping choices your customers will see. You can call these anything you wish. We recommend using an clear and easy name so that it will be easy for your customers to understand. You can have as many shipping methods as you need.

A “Shipping Rule” determines what the Shipping Method does. For example:
Let’s say you have a shipping method called “Ground Shipping”.
You can set a rule that states that items shipping from zip code 90210 are to use UPS Ground.
Another rule states that items shipping from zip code 10451 are to use FedEx Ground.
A third rule states that items shipping from zip code 33434 are to use USPS Priority Mail.

In this example, if the customer chooses “Ground Shipping”, the system will know which rule(s) to use depending on which items are in the cart.

Rules can also be set based on:

  • Origin Zip/Postal Code
  • Shipping Category
  • Value of items in the order
  • Value of items using this rule
  • Weight of items in the order
  • Weight of items in this rule
  • Destination Country, State/Province

Calculations can be based on:

  • Weight
  • Number of items this rule applies to
  • Total value of items this rule applies to
