UPS Settings allow you to set specific settings related to UPS.

UPS Rate Type:
Set to “Retail UPS Rate” to use the regular UPS rates.
Set to “My Negotiated UPS Rates” if you wish to use your company’s negotiated rates. IMPORTANT: In order for this to work, you will need to contact UPS and request specifically that they enable negotiated rates in the API for your account. Contact your UPS representative. They will know what you are requesting, even if you do not understand it.
If you need help, please contact us.

If you choose to use Negotiated UPS rates, then you will also need to enter your UPS Shipper Number here.

Declare Value (Insurance): Set to “Declare Value” to enable UPS insurance for the value of the order. This will tell UPS the order value. Set to “Do Not Declare Value”, and eShipRate will not tell UPS the value of your shipment, leaving it uninsured, or insured for a minimal value.

Pickup Type: In almost all cases, this should be set to “Daily Pickup”. Do not change this unless you are sure of this setting.

UPS Packaging Type: In almost all cases, this should be set to “Your Packaging”. Do not change this unless you are sure of this setting.

Enable UPS Simple Rate: Checking this box will enable UPS Simple Rate to be used. Make sure that you fully understand this service prior to enabling. UPS Simple Rate offers flat rate shipping provided that the package dimensions are within specific cubic volume limits.
eShipRate will determine if the box or boxes being used are within those limits and request simple rate pricing. However, in order for this to work accurately, you should set up box sizes and dimensions of your items. Items whose dimensions are not set, will be treated as 0 dimensions and the system will assume that the item will fit in any sized box.
When the time comes to actually ship the order, you may find that the item doesn’t fit, and you will then need to pay a higher rate to ship the order than what you charged your customer. Make sure you understand this prior to enabling.

If enabled, you will also see the box sizes allowed by UPS for Simple Rate. By default, they are all checked (enabled). You may disable any of the box sizes from being used in Simple Rate.

Specify the split weights before splitting a shipment into multiple packages:
This section allows you to specify the weight (in pounds) at which eShipRate will split an order into multiple packages or start a new package.
Shipping carriers charge extra fees for heavy boxes. So for example, 4 boxes weighing 50 lbs each will usually cost less than 2 boxes weighing 100lbs each.
Also, if you have set box sizes, then the lower weight of the 2 (weight shown below vs max box weight) will be used. Also, you should specify the absolute maximum weight for each of the rates. If a single item is heavier than the split weight, then the split weight will be the weight of the item for that box.

UPS currently charges their heavyweight surcharge on packages weighing over 50 lbs.
