USPS Settings

USPS Settings allow you to set specific settings related to USPS.

USPS Domestic Rate Type: Select which rate type you wish to use for domestic USA shipments. Regular or Commercial. If you are not sure, use Regular.

USPS International Rate Type: Select which rate type you wish to use for international shipments. Regular, Commercial, or Commercial Plus. If you are not sure, use Regular.
Note: Commercial rates are available for most USPS shipping methods. However, when commercial rates are unavailable, system will use regular rate.

Enable USPS Flat Rates:
Checking this will enable eShipRate to calculate shipping using flat-rate branded packaging from the Post Office. Select which flat-rate destinations you wish to use, US & International, US Only, or International Only.
Next select which USPS branded boxes you will be using.
Be careful when enabling flat rates. You should ensure that your items have dimensions set. The system will treat dimensions as 0, when no dimensions are set. Items must fit inside the flat-rate boxes. When the time comes to ship the order, if the items don’t fit, you will end up spending more on shipping than what you charged your customer. Therefore, make sure that if you choose to use flat-rates, that all your items have dimensions set so that eShipRate can correctly determine if the items ordered will fit.

Specify the maximum weights before splitting a shipment into multiple packages (Domestic):
Shipping carriers charge extra fees for heavy boxes. So for example, 4 boxes weighing 50 lbs each will usually cost less than 2 boxes weighing 100 lbs each.
Also, if you have set box sizes, then the lower weight of the 2 (weight shown below vs max box weight) will be used.

For International shipments, the maximum weight for each USPS shipping method varies by the destination country. Therefore in order to avoid having to enter the max/split weight for every country individually, you should enter the number of pounds to be subtracted from the destination country’s maximum weight.
For example, if you are shipping to the United Kingdom, and the maximum weight is 66 pounds for Priority Mail, but you want to set it at 60 pounds, then enter a 6. 6 will be subtracted from the default maximum weight for that shipping method to the United Kingdom.
Default is 0.
